Two Point Eight

I have spent nearly all of my adult life on the wish, hope, prayer, determination, aspiration, and dream of having my college degree. I became a mom in the middle of my freshman year. I made the decision to devote my time to being a mom to my sons; educational attempts were made with decent success but always at the price of my mom-job.

Now, with my teenage sons in highschool (my oldest entering his senior year. I am holding back my tears & cheers), I have put together a comprehensive plan to get this damned degree.

There was so much preparation in finding a school that worked best for me and offered a career pathway that was interesting and useful. My coworker was buzzing away on her iPad during a staff training breakout session. I was nosey enough to play 21 questions, and I got 21 answers. She and her husband were attending WGU: bonus, they offer an employee discount. It’s 5% but savings is savings.

Months later, I’m enrolled, program picked: RN Pre-licensure. They accepted 15 of my former credits. And I have a 2.8 GPA (I left SFASU with half of that, okay. No literally. My GPA was 1.something. Hey, I was preggo!!)

There are a few more steps that I have to take to get IN my cohort, but I am determined and well on my way. I am so excited to have those blessed letters behind my name R.N.

A (badly edited) look into my future as a graduate of Western Governors University BSN Program. Go Owls
